Kingswood Colomendy

Well... what a fabulous three days we have had at Kingswood Colomendy.

This was the first time we have visited this residential setting as a school and we would certainly be happy to go back... in fact several of the children asked if they could stay!

After an orientation around the site we ate tea... roast chicken, pasta and yorkshire puddings were the children's favourite choices.

A blindfold trail (nightline) in the dark and the rain was followed by hot chocolate around the campfire, with quality singing, as ever from our children!

After a good night's sleep (for most of us at least! ) we had an early breakfast (cereals, bacon and beans)  and spent the morning designing and building our rafts.

Wet feet for everyone... Wet legs for most... And wet everything for a brave few!

Shoes and socks full of water we had a squidgy, wet walk back up the hill followed by pizza for lunch.

The afternoon saw stylish descents for some at abseiling, not so stylish for others and a few just admired the view from the top!

Although the morning had been gloriously sunny our bushcraft session in the late afternoon was damp. However some impressive teepees were constructed and we were successful starting fires too, despite the showers. All that practice in outdoor learning certainly helped!

Another scrummy tea followed, this time curry night (or pasta), popadums and nan bread.

Our first evening activity was very educational ..Did you know bats can see in the dark because they eat carrots and caves are made from concrete and chicken wire? Caving was great fun and the some of the very narrow routes were challenging for some (Mr Shone tried to convince the children that they had made the gaps narrower since the last time he went!).

Scrapheap challenge involved launching rockets into the night sky, and the problem solving in designing them and adapting them to make them go further set us up for the activities the following morning. More hot chocolate before a very weary group of children (and adults) had another good night's sleep.

Our last morning saw us packing our cases before breakfast, (sausage, tomatoes, scrambled eggs and cereals) and enjoying yet another climb up the hill!

Climbing Jacob's ladder certainly needed partnerwork as it was impossible to do without helping each other, and a little competition set the pace for the staff too, (well done Mrs Jessop!).

The Problem Solving activity was all about teamwork.... which summed up what the whole trip had been about ..

WELL DONE TEAM YEAR 6 - you were fabulous!
