Below is some useful information for this term:
Home Learning Challenge:
Our Home Learning this half term will be either a maths task or an English task. We will issue homework on a Monday for it to be handed in the following Monday. We will also have weekly spellings issued on a Monday and a spelling test on a Friday. It is also very important for you to read every night and for a parent/carer to log this in the reading diary.
English
In English we will be looking at the book The Rhythm of the rain by Grahame Baker-Smith.
Issac plays in his favourite pool on the mountainside...
As rain starts to fall, he empties his little jar of water into the pool and races the sparkling streams as they tumble over waterfalls, rush through swollen rivers and burst out into the vast open sea.
Where will my little jar of water go now? Issac wonders.
On the other side of the world, Cassi welcomes the rain to her parched village . . .
We will be learning how to write poetry, settings and how to create a setting narrative.
Maths
In Maths this term, we will be revisiting Place Value in more detail which will include representing and partitioning numbers up to 10,000, Roman numerals and rounding. Before moving on to Addition and Subtraction of 4 digit numbers with and without exchanging.
In addition to our maths lessons, we will also be learning and practising our multiplication tables recall. Practice at home is always encouraged by logging into TTRS or trying www.timestables.co.uk.
Science
In our science lessons this term we are looking at the subject of Rocks we will be looking at rocks their properties, their permiability, what fossils are and we will even be designing our own dinosaur!
Topic
History- We will be learning all about Britain since the last Ice Age focusing around early humans,Skara Brae, the Stone Age to Iron Age, trade and Celtic Britain.
Geography- We will be learning all about rivers and the water cycle as well as how important water is to our survival, rain and precipitation.
RE- We will be learning What makes us Human, what makes us special, do we have a soul, spirituality and Buddhism.
SCARF- We will be learning, Me and My Relationships where we will look at cooperation, friendships, respecting views and opinions of others and different community groups.
ART- In Art we will be learning all about prehistoric art exploring how it was used to tell stories, the use of natural materials, printing and stenciling to help make our own final piece of cave art.
DT- We will be learning all about homes in the Stone Age and how they were constructed. We will then design and build our own Stone Age inspired home.
Computing- We will be learning about branching databases and how we need to create key questions with yes or no answers to sort a set of criteria.
Music- We will be learning all about ballads, how they are composed, what instruments are used, writing ballads and performing our own ballads.
P.E
Children are to still come to school in their PE kit for the day they are doing PE. PE kit consists of black shorts/tracksuit bottoms/leggings, a red t-shirt, their school hoodie and black trainers/pumps.
This term we will be swimming twice a week.Please ensure your child has everything they need for the sessions which includes a swimsuit (one piece for girls and trunks for boys-no long shorts please), a large towel, goggles and sliders/crocs.
