Fairtrade Fortnight

Lesson: PSHE and citizenship

We have all been learning about Fairtrade during Fairtrade Fortnight!  WE have been thinking about the foods we eat, where they come from and how they are grown.  We watched a video of some banana farmers in Colombia and saw how difficult it can be to produce good quality bananas for big supermarkets who only want to pay a low price to the farmers.  Those farmers found it difficult to feed their own families.

We looked at how Fairtrade means that farmers are paid a fair price for their goods, including bananas, tea, coffe and chocolate.  We looked at the logo that identifies goods that are Fairtrade.

We used Fairtrade items to make crispy cakes.  This used Fairtrade chocolate and syrup.

All of KS1 had a Fairtrade Feed, where we got to sample Fairtrade foods, including our crispy cakes!
