Raising Aspirations Assembly (Nutritionist)
Date: 14th Nov 2019 @ 4:25pm
We were delighted to welcome Angela Highton, a nutritionist, to our Raising Aspirations Assembly this morning. The children learnt that a nutritionist provides information on food and healthy eating and can work in a variety of sectors (public/private/education). Unlike dieticians who primarily work with people who are ill or whose health is affected by conditions such as food allergies, malnutrition or diabetes, nutritionists mostly work with people who are healthy. For example, Angela is currently working with a basketball team to improve their performance on the court by ensuring their nutrition has a positive impact on the court.
Angela explained how she uses the following key skills in her role:
- Teamworking skills
- Keen interest in the impact of diet on health
- Good interpersonal skills
- Communication skills, including the ability to explain complex things simply
- An understanding of science
- Literacy and numeracy skills
- Business skills for freelance work
Everyone at Willow Wood would like to thank Angela for volunteering her time to share her career pathway with us.
