The Palm Approach

In Palm class we have designed everything to help children to become confident, independent learners who feel safe, valued and successful. Our curriculum is fully aligned with the National Curriculum but is carefully adapted to meet each child's individual needs, enabling every pupil to achieve their full potential academically, socially and emotionally. 

Children in Palm class learn best in a calm, nurturing, structured and predictable environment with consistent routines, visual support and quality first teaching helping children feel safe, confident and ready to learn. 

Our teaching focusses on developing the whole child by supporting:

• Attention and listening
• Cognition and learning
• Emotional and sensory regulation
• Social interaction
• Independence
• Fine motor development

To enable all children to succeed staff use:

• Visual timetables, Now and Next boards and visual prompts.
• Short, clear instructions are broken into manageable steps.
• Repetition and over learning are used to reinforce new skills.
• High quality adult modelling and scaffolding. 
• Practical and sensory hands-on learning opportunities.
• Activities that match individuals needs.
